Robert’s professional affiliations include: Grand Council member of the Texas Leaders Round Table and a member of the Top of the Table, a prestigious designation from the Million Dollar Round Table.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in business accounting from Stephen F. Austin State University. 

He served two years with the U.S. Army, spending one year, 1967-68, in Vietnam.

Formerly an executive vice president of a local savings and loan, Robert used that experience to move into the insurance industry. He entered the industry with the purchase of the Lufkin office of American General Life Insurance. In 1991, he used his extensive financial expertise to expand his insurance business into a full-service financial services company and renamed it The Advanced Financial Group.

Robert’s community involvement includes helping high school students achieve their goals of going to college. He works with the Lufkin High School Alumni Association, an organization devoted to obtaining financial assistance to students wanting to go to college. He also has advanced students’ interests by having served 12 years on the Lufkin Independent School District Board.

Other community activities include having coached youth baseball and served as president of the local youth baseball association, as well as being a past president of the Lufkin Kiwanis Club.

Formerly chairman of the Angelina County Appraisal District Board, Robert also has previously served as a chairman of the Board of Trustees of Lufkin's First Baptist Church.
